Visit Farmers Markets in Omaha, NE

Farmers' markets offer locally grown and made products. They are a modern version of a bygone era when shoppers journeyed to open markets to purchase most of their produce, especially fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, and even baked goods. Today, many staple products, such as eggs, greens, tomatoes, squash, onions, and various herbs, can be purchased at lower prices than at supermarkets. Many growers at farmers' markets take pride in offering organic vegetables grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Some vendors may sell meat from free-range cattle and poultry. As in days past, these farmers' markets offer people the opportunity to meet and socialize. Restaurants and other shops, along with parks, are available in the same area.

Florence Mill Country Market

The Farmers' Market at Florence Mill is open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sundays at the historic, once-dilapidated mill in Omaha, from June to September. The mill, which is also a museum, originated in 1846 as a Winter Quarters gristmill and grain elevator on the Old Mormon Trail. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. Historic restoration of the mill began in 1998.
The museum is on the first floor, with an art loft studio and gallery on the second floor.  The Sunday Farmer's Market gave it a new life as a cultural and heritage attraction. It connects agriculture, history, art, and education, and on Sunday, classes in cooking, gardening, and animal care are offered. Pony rides and other attractions are available for children.
The Sunday Farmers' Market also features live music and food trucks. The mill museum hibernates during the winter because it lacks heat or water.
